Unity of Fairfax Church is celebrating the installation of a Green Roof on the Mildred Park Center as part of its ongoing Stormwater Management Project. The roof is 4,500 square feet and will have 5,600 plants. The church began an environmental landscape policy on its 5-acre site three years ago when a church member rescued his backyard native plants and transferred them to build a National Wildlife Foundation area. When the church was faced with replacing a flat aggregate roof, the opportunity arose for considering an environmentally-friendly Green Roof. Of three grant proposals submitted, two were awarded in summer 2007. Since approval, the church has raised over $37,000. The project is designed to become a demonstration site where homeowners, businesses and faith centers can learn how to duplicate this environmentally friendly technology. The community is invited on Sunday, June 1, at noon when the church will celebrate the new roof as a significant milestone in the overall Project. Unity of Fairfax is located at 2854 Hunter Mill Road, Oakton 22124, right next to the new Oakton library. Visit www.Unityoffairfax.org.

Their are some pretty cool pictures in this article....I especially like the Telebelt that they used to get growing media and plants to the roof. This is a good tool for projects that are 4 stories or less and has a reach of 105 ft., and it was supplied by Brundage, Bone and Blanchet. Very Cool!
